• Licensing Fee: None.
• Annuity: The renewal fee must be paid within 12 months before the expiration of the first 5-year period. If the annual fee is overdue, it can be paid within a grace period of 6 months after the expiration, and a penalty must be paid at the same time.

The grace period for novelty of an Indian design application is 6 months from the date of disclosure, provided the exhibitor has given prior notification to the Patent Office in the prescribed form. According to the provisions of the Indian Patent Act, the manner of disclosure shall be:
- Presentation of designs at industrial or other fairs
- Publication of the design during or after the exhibition
- Display or publication of designs or design descriptions by third parties during or after the fair without the consent of the design owner

INAPI conducts formal and substantive examinations of invention patent applications. JPO mainly examines the novelty and inventiveness of designs.

IPONIGERIA only conducts formality examination and unity of invention examination for invention patent applications.

DGIP only conducts formality examination of the design application, and after the examination, it will be published and enter a 3-month opposition period. Only in the case of an opposition, substantive examination takes place within six months of the opposition closing.
