The EUIPO intellectual property subsidy for SMEs, which started in 2024, was officially launched in 2025. From February 3 to December 5, 2025, SMEs within the EU can apply for patents, trademarks and designs in EU countries and EUIPO, and receive a subsidy of up to 75%. Each SME can receive a maximum of 5,700 euros.

For small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU, if they file trademark and design application fees in EU countries and EUIPO, they can receive a 75% subsidy, while the subsidy for international trademark and design application fees is 50%.

  • The national and European patent application fees are subsidized by 75% up to a maximum of €2,000 (€1,000 national fees, €1,000 European fees) if the patent search is carried out at the Austrian Patent Office; the patent attorney fees for preparing the European patent application are subsidized by 50% up to a maximum of €1,500. (voucher 3)
  • 75% subsidy for online filing of plant variety protection applications and examination fees at the EUIPO Plant Variety Office (CPVO), up to a maximum of €1,500. (voucher 4)

Patent, trademark and design patent applicants must file patent, trademark and design patent applications and submit their first subsidy application within one month of receiving the funding, settle other eligible expenses within six months of the first subsidy application, and receive subsidies again. This deadline can be extended by another month after submitting a request for an extension.

Each SME can only receive funding once. A second or third application can only be made if the previous application is rejected. Each subsidy application can submit one or more IP funding applications.

Austria's SME certification standards also meet the EU's SME certification standards:
