With the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2028, the European Patent Office (EPO) continues to work towards the full digitalization of the patent granting process. From February 27, 2025, the EPO has launched a pilot project on electronic priority documents. This marks a solid step towards improving user experience and increasing efficiency. Pilot users of this new service will be able to request EPO priority documents in electronic format rather than paper, making them easier to access and use.
Through the "MyEPO Portfolio" system, applicants can request an electronic priority document, which will be sent to the applicant's email in the form of a ZIP file. This electronic file may also include a sequence listing submitted by the applicant and may be applicable to possible second use requirements.
How EPO electronic priority documents complement WIPO DAS
The introduction of electronic priority documents complements the World Intellectual Property Organization Digital Access Service (WIPO DAS) and specifically meets the needs of applicants who claim priority from an EPO application and wish to file electronically in countries or regions not participating in WIPO DAS.
Looking ahead
In 2025, the EPO will provide more digital services, such as the option to download multimedia citations, a more user-friendly "MyEPO Portfolio" interface, more self-management options, and plans to completely retire the traditional online filing software (eOLF) by the end of 2025, when Online Filing 2.0 will become the only EPO filing tool.

We hope that through our professional services, we can help your patent process become more efficient, environmentally friendly and seamless.
