Multiple designs are allowed in one design application only if the designs belong to the same set (usually used or sold at the same time).

If the disclosure is caused by the inventor or the information source of the discloser is the inventor; or if the disclosure occurs again after being disclosed by the above-mentioned subject, the patent enjoys a novelty grace period within 12 months before the filing date/priority date.

The patent grant procedure is divided into two separate stages:

• The first stage is the formality examination stage, from the filing of the patent application to the publication of the patent application.
• The second stage is the substantive examination stage after publication. If the application meets the formal requirements, the Hungarian Patent Office will manage the filing date and perform a novelty search. The request for substantive examination can be made at the time of filing the application or at the latest within 6 months from the date of publication of the search report in the Official Gazette.

A utility model patent application in Malaysia can only contain one claim and is subject to formal and substantive examination. The applicant needs to submit a request for substantive examination within 2 years from the date of application. There is innovation in the product or process or an improvement on the existing product or process. It should be practical, no creativity required.

The invention does not lose its novelty if the inventor, or a third party who directly or indirectly obtains relevant information from the inventor, discloses the invention information within 12 months before the filing date/priority date.

Formal examination and substantive examination are required, and substantive examination starts automatically.

A 12-month novelty grace period applies if the disclosure results from a breach of confidentiality, or if the inventor exhibits at an international exhibition or society.

If disclosed by the author or his successor, the novelty grace period shall be enjoyed within 12 months after the first disclosure.
