INAPI conducts formal and substantive examinations of invention patent applications. After completing the formality examination, the applicant must extract the extract and publish it in the Official Gazette by INAPI within 60 working days. The patent enjoys a novelty grace period within 12 months from the filing date or the priority date.

There is no annual fee for the third and fourth years, but the applicant needs to notify INPI for renewal in the third and fourth years.
