Grant fee: The applicant should pay the granted fee, registration fee and first renewal fee within 2 months after receiving the granted decision.

Annuity: From the third year onwards from the date of application, it shall be paid year by year. The renewal fee should be paid within the last year of the current 5-year validity period, and the annual fee can be paid within a grace period of 6 months if the annual fee is overdue, and a 50% penalty must be paid at the same time.

Novelty grace period is available if the design is disclosed by the designer or the designer's representative within 12 months before the application to IGE/IPI.

In Hungary, the following disclosures provide for a novelty grace period of 12 months:
- Disclosures resulting from abuse related to the applicant or his legal predecessors;
- the disclosure was made by the applicant, his predecessor or a third party (if the information was provided by the applicant or his predecessor).

Furthermore, if the design is disclosed to a third party under conditions of confidentiality, the disclosure will be disregarded.

The initial term of protection is 5 years from the filing date, which can be extended up to 25 years by renewal every 5 years.

12-18 months

The PPO conducts formal and substantive examinations of invention patent applications. There is no need to file a request for substantive examination, and the substantive examination starts automatically.
