In line with Saudi Arabia’s commitment to protecting intellectual property, the Kingdom hosted the Diplomatic Conference on Design Law, which was attended by 193 member states, including WIPO, to adopt the Riyadh Treaty on Design Law, with a focus on agreeing on the final text and formally approving the treaty.
The Riyadh Treaty on Design Law aims to simplify the formal procedures for protecting designs by prescribing uniform minimum requirements for registered design applications. It provides a legal framework to simplify and standardize the procedures and requirements for the examination of design applications by the intellectual property authorities of WIPO member states, and also helps applicants obtain protection for their designs based on requirements related to application details, design description, filing date and publication process.
This milestone reinforces Saudi Arabia’s position as a global hub for supporting innovation initiatives. It reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to creating an environment that encourages innovation and contributes to the development of creative industries worldwide.
