Morocco has made significant progress in intellectual property rights. In 2023, Morocco authorized 644 invention patents, an increase of 65 from 2022. Among them, 142 patents belonged to local residents and 502 to non-local residents.
In terms of industrial designs, Morocco ranks fifth in the world in terms of registered designs to GDP, achieving 1,341 designs per $100 billion. This milestone underscores the dynamism of Morocco’s industrial sector.
In addition, in 2023, Morocco submitted 15.2% of Madrid international trademark registration applications, reflecting the country's increasing emphasis on protecting brands globally.
Currently, Morocco is working to simplify administrative procedures and improve efficiency, reducing the average grant time for patent applications from 23 months to a shorter period.
